I broke my leg trying out roller derby, and sought out Thai massage for my recovery. As they were digging their heel into my side, I was transported back to the moment I broke my leg. The smell of the rink floor, the chaos of a bunch of newbies with no idea what to do for a broken leg, and a profound sense that i need help to survive. I didn't know yet that my leg was broken, but my nervous system knew I wouldn't make it without the support of them carrying me to the hospital, the nurses and doctors who hammered my leg back in place, and the people who scooped my cats litter box in the months to come. It became so clear to me that the one thing we all need to survive is each other. Two weeks later, with my leg still in a boot, I signed up for school at Lauterstein Conway massage school in Austin, Texas. There I learned the Lauterstein deep method, a well rounded approach to massage that integrates aspects of myofascial, zero balancing, trigger point, Rolfing, and other bodywork disciplines. After graduating I quickly established myself as a mobile MT in the Austin area before moving back home, to Denver, CO. In my first year as an LMT I received my manual lymphatic drainage certificate studying the Vodder technique, the oldest and most studied form of MLD. This only furthered my passion and interest for this work, and opened a path to work with an often overlooked, integral system of our body.
